Open Call in American Humor Studies
Organization of American Historians Conference:
In-person: March 30-April 2, 2023, Los Angeles; Virtual Series: April 13-May 4, 2023.
Humor and History
The American Humor Studies Association is seeking proposals for an open panel on Humor and History.
As an interdisciplinary organization, the AHSA would like to have both an in-person and on-line presence at the 2023 Organization of American Historians (OAH) Conference “Confronting Crises: History for Uncertain Times,” March 30-April 2 and Virtual Series: April 13-May 4.
This CFP hopes to encourage scholars of humor to explore the historical framework of their work, and to strengthen historians’ interest in humor as a fertile subject and source of analysis. The study of humor from a firm historical perspective offers a space for dialogue between the fields of humor in the U.S., and in American cultural, social, and political history.
This panel seeks contributions that highlight the intersection of humor and history from all periods of U.S. history.
All submissions should include an abstract (no more than 250 words) and a short author bio.
Please send submissions and/or questions to Teresa Prados-Torreira: tprados-torreira@colum.edu by Saturday, January 7, 2022.
